Not every concrete job is a driveway or a patio. Some of them have 12 courts, a whole university watching, and no room for do-overs.

This fall, TNT Services has been working on one of Nashville’s most recognizable campuses — Vanderbilt University — pouring concrete for their tennis courts. With 12 courts total on the project, we’re tackling them in phases, and this week we completed three of them.

Here’s what goes into commercial concrete work at this scale, and what it means for homeowners and commercial clients who need a contractor they can count on.

What Does a Large-Scale Commercial Concrete Pour Actually Look Like?

Pouring concrete for athletic courts isn’t the same as a residential driveway or backyard patio — even though it starts in the same place: good subbase, proper rebar, and a crew that knows what they’re doing.

For a project like this, the specs are tighter. Surface flatness on a sports court directly affects how the ball plays and how water drains after a rain. Even a small deviation in grade becomes a real problem. That means precise screeding, careful leveling, and a finishing crew that doesn’t cut corners under pressure.

We’re doing Vanderbilt’s courts in phases — three at a time — which gives each section time to cure correctly before we move to the next. Phased pours keep quality consistent and let the project stay on track without sacrificing the standard of work.

Why Does Commercial Concrete Require More Precision?

On a residential driveway or patio, there’s some room for variation. You want it flat and durable, but the tolerances aren’t measured to fractions of an inch. On a high-use sports court, they are. Drainage, surface wear, and long-term performance all depend on getting the pour right from the start.

The same principle applies to any commercial flatwork — parking lots, building slabs, ADA sidewalks. The stakes are higher, and the cost of cutting corners shows up later, when cracks form or drainage fails.

Commercial and Residential Concrete: One Team, Same Standard

TNT Services handles concrete work at every scale — from a homeowner’s driveway in Dickson County to a multi-phase university project in Nashville. The crew is the same. The standard is the same. What changes is the coordination: more trucks, bigger footprint, tighter timelines on commercial jobs.

What we offer on the concrete side includes:

  • Driveways and residential patios
  • House slabs and footers
  • ADA-compliant sidewalks
  • Commercial flatwork — courts, pads, parking lots
  • Foundations and footings
